| Student Elections |
Every year two UT students are elected in a campus-wide election to serve as representatives of the University of Texas student body on the University Co-op Board of Directors. These positions are only for the Co-op Board of Directors, and are not part of The University of Texas student government. This year the positions are open to all full time students at UT Austin. Pre-requisites for Board eligibility include maintaining full-time student status for the two-year term which starts May 2010. These positions share equal responsibility and voting rights with the two students and the four UT faculty members already serving on the Board. Here is what our current student Board Members say about serving on the Co-op Board: |
“As a Board, we face challenges that reflect the current economic climate as well as the unique challenges of a college bookstore, and I really feel like I’m in the midst of all the action.” "Having the opportunity to be a part of a history as long and influential as the University Co-op´s is truly special. As a director, I have been able to make decisions and vote on issues that measurably impact the company and the University as a whole. I have had the opportunity to serve on committees that allocate funds to help student organizations, structure university-wide elections, and audit real-world financial documents. This position has allowed me to grow as an individual and a business professional while representing the student body and leaving a lasting impression on the University." "As a music major, the world of business transactions and financial quandaries was something rather unfamiliar to me. However, gaining a position on the board has allowed me to discover more about the economic climate of UT and the Co-op. Being a board member allows one to collaborate with truly compassionate individuals who genuinely care about benefiting the student body in whatever way possible, as well as providing valuable insight into how to navigate through an ever evolving business world." |
