What is the Rebate Program? |
Since 1896 the University Co-op has given rebates on purchases made at any Co-op location to the students, faculty, and staff of the University of Texas at Austin. The rebate program is a patronage refund, awarded annually to the students, faculty, and staff of the University of Texas. The rebate is a store credit (not cash), paid at the discretion of the University Co-op Board of Directors in the form of a gift card that you can use at one of our many locations across the state or online at www.universitycoop.com. |
How much is the rebate amount? |
The rebate amount is based on the total value of most purchases, minus taxes (some restrictions apply). For the past several years, the rebate has been a full 10% of the value of the receipts turned in. |
How do I begin entering in receipts? |
After you shop at the University Co-op, save all of your receipts from your in-store and online purchases. Create an account online at rebate.universitycoop.com and the day after your purchase, you can login to add your receipt to your rebate account. |
What do I need to enter in receipts? |
You will need your UT ID card and the receipts you would like to enter. When creating your account, be sure to include the full 16 digit student ID number on your UT ID card and not your UT EID. The University Co-op does not use the UT EID number for any purpose. We only use the full student ID number on your card. |
Do I have to be a student, faculty, or staff at the University of Texas to enter in receipts? |
Yes, rebates are given to individual students, faculty, and staff at the University of Texas, (unless you just graduated). Each participant must enter in his or her own receipts. Groups are not eligible to turn in receipts collectively. |
Are any items not eligible for my rebate account? |
Yes. The following items are not available for entering in rebates: |
- UT Austin catalogs and course schedules
- Non-merchandise items, such as stamps, money orders, gift certificates, and UPS charges
- Sale items
- Gift cards
- eTextbooks
- Textbook Rentals
- Also, rebates are not issued for sales tax, only subtotal
How long do I have to enter in receipts? |
Each rebate year runs from July 1st of one year to June 30th of the next year. You can enter your receipts as often as you want during this period. Rebates are only distributed once a year, regardless of when you enter in your receipts. |
I can't find my receipts. Can I still get a rebate? |
Unfortunately, you cannot get a rebate for any receipts you have lost. Please take care to keep track of your receipts and make sure you obtain a receipt when you purchase or pick up your items. |
When can I expect to receive my rebate card? |
After our rebate period ends on June 30th, we will begin gathering data and processing the cards. We expect to have rebate cards made in early October, just in time for the OU game! Why is that? The rebate amount is determined by the University Co-op Board of Directors after the end of our fiscal year audit. If you are worried that your card has not come in yet, don't be. The rebate period ends on June 30th and we will have your card a few months later. They won't come much earlier than early October and they should''t come after the OU game. |
How will I know my card is ready? Where do I pick it up? |
| We will send an e-mail out letting you know that cards are available for pick up. You can pick up your rebate card beginning in October at the store you chose when you created your account. If you would like this changed, you can send us an e-mail to let us know. Be sure to include your name, student ID number, and the store you would now like to pick up your card at. |
What if I can't pick up my rebate card? |
No worries! Just let us know and we will gladly mail your card to the address you entered when you created your account. It is important that you provide a permanent address because the post office will not forward your card if you no longer live at the residence you listed. You may change your address by updating your profile at rebate.universitycoop.com. If the rebate period has ended and you can no longer access your account, but that address has changed, just let us know. Be sure to include your name, student ID number, and your new address and we will be happy to mail your rebate card to your new address. |
| My account is locked, what do I do? |
Send an e-mail to us and let us know that your account is locked. Be sure to include your name and student ID number and we will be glad to unlock your account for you. |
I forgot my secret answers or they don't seem to be working |
Send an e-mail to us and let us know that you forgot your secret answers or that there's another problem with your secret answers. Be sure to include your name and student ID number and we will be glad to provide your secret answers for you. |
I am getting an error that says, "Transaction not found" |
This typically happens if you try to enter in receipts from previous rebate years. Make sure your receipt is last July 1st or after. Sometimes, though, transactions aren't found because of technical issues.
If you are experiencing this issue and your receipt is within the current rebate period, send us an e-mail letting us know that your transaction is not found. Be sure to include your name, student ID number, and all of your necessary receipt info. This would include the date, register number, transaction number, subtotal and transaction ID, and we will be happy to take a look at this for you. |
I am getting an error that says, "Subtotal does not match" |
This typically happens if when you try to put in exchange or return receipts. Exchange receipts are receipts that have returns as well as purchases on them. As long as you entered in the original receipt that that return came from, any subsequent purchases will be included in your balance. You don't need to enter them in. Returns, though, will be automatically deducted.
If you did not enter in the original receipt or if you lost that receipt, send us an e-mail letting us know. Be sure to include your name, student ID number, and all of your necessary receipt info. This would include the date, register number, transaction number, subtotal and transaction ID, and we will be happy to take a look at this for you. |
It's asking me to create a new account. I had an account on file before. Did I lose all my receipts? |
No! The new rebate year has started and we have begun making cards for the previous rebate year. Your balance will be on those cards. In this case, you should only use the site to enter in receipts for the new rebate period. |
I didn't get all of my receipts entered in before the new rebate year started. Can I still enter them in? |
Yes! We understand that things happen. We will be more than glad to take your receipts still. Please bring them in an envelope to our Main location at 2246 Guadalupe Street. Our Helpdesk is located in the basement, to the left of the stairwell. They will be happy to take your receipts for you. |
I got a new student ID, can I still enter in receipts? |
Yes you can. When you pick up your rebate card, we can use your name and photo ID to verify your card. Also, if you remember your old ID number, we can use that as well. So you don't need to change your ID on the rebate site.
But if you still wish to have your info on a new account, then you'll need to create a new account at rebate.universitycoop.com. From there, send an e-mail to us and let us know that you would like your receipts transferred to your new account and your old one deleted. Give us both your old and new account numbers and we will be happy to do this for you. |
What can I buy with my rebate card? |
The cards are good for most merchandise available in any of our stores, with a few exceptions. Non-eligible items include non-merchandise items, such as stamps, money orders, gift cards, and shipping charges, as well as UT Austin catalogs and course schedules. |
I am a Lifetime Longhorn member. Can I use that discount along with the rebate card? |
You are welcome to use your Lifetime Longhorn discount in conjunction with the rebate cards. Just bring your card for in-store purchases or enter your Lifetime Longhorn number in the coupon section for online orders as you are checking out. |
Can I use the rebate online? |
Yes! You can place an order on our website and select "Gift Card" as your payment type. Enter your 16 digit card number where specified, and the other 4 digit number for the PIN. If the total for your order, including shipping and tax, is more than you have on your rebate card, include credit card information. |
How long do I have to use my rebate card? |
Rebate cards expire on June 30 following their issue date. For example, the rebate cards that will be issued in Fall 2011 will expire on June 30, 2012. |
How do I lookup my rebate card balance? |
Check out our new Gift Card and Rebate Card Balance page. Here you can enter your card number to check your current rebate card balance.
My balance on the website doesn't seem right |
If you put in receipts and made and exchange, those purchases are included automatically. But, this won't show in your account balance. Rest assured it will be included on your rebate card in October. |
Can I check my balance after the rebate period has ended? |
Yes you can, just send us an e-mail letting us know that you would like your balance. Be sure to include your name and student ID number and we will be glad to help you. |
It says the rebate website is down |
Sometimes we make changes to improve our rebate program. Rest assured the site will be back up very soon. |
I'm not getting a response from my e-mails asking for help |
You can always give us a call at (512) 476-7211. Option 8 is the Helpdesk and they will be more than happy to answer your questions. |
