Extra set of sheets

When your parents aren’t doing your laundry for the first time, it’s always a good idea to have an extra set of bed sheets for the days when you’re feeling lazy or feel overwhelmed with schoolwork.

I know this one might seem like an unusual choice, a small desk fan is both affordable and a great way to stay cool in the warmer months of your Freshman year.

There's nothing quite like the feeling of walking around the gorgeous Forty Acres while blasting your favorite tunes, so a good pair of headphones is a must! They’re also excellent for blocking out noise in your dorm room if you are trying to sleep or get some studying done.

Mini toolkit and first aid kit

A staple must-have for when you move out, either to help treat cuts, scrapes, sprains, or other injuries or to help out a friend in need.

Even in sunny Texas, it’s always smart to stay prepared with a classy umbrella to prevent showing up to class drenched.

Snack kit

A steady supply of healthy yet tasty snacks is the key to staying energized between classes. It especially comes in clutch to refuel during midterms and finals season. Additionally, it is a quick way to stay satiated if you can’t make it to the dining hall for complete meals every now and then.

Water filter and water bottle

Just like the snack kit, consuming a healthy amount of water is essential to being productive in college, and having a great water bottle is key to having a source of H2O nearby whenever you need it.

Extra phone charger/ portable charger

You ever know when you find yourself spontaneously spending the entire day on the campus and having a portable charger or an extra cable in your backpack will make sure you don’t have to head back to your room before you’re totally done grinding out that essay.

Although this is on the pricier side, investing in a good laptop freshman year will hold you in good stead for the rest of your college career. It allows you the freedom and flexibility to complete that midnight exam or get ahead on your next assignment.

Never underestimate the importance of writing things down! No matter how amazing we think our memory is, I promise you will forget the important dates, and getting a planner is without a doubt a freshman essential.
