Easy DIY Halloween Decorations

It’s almost Halloween (yay!!!!)

It's the perfect time to decorate your dorm, apartment, or house with cute (and spooky!) DIY decorations!

These DIY decorations can be made mostly with product available at the Co-op Art Store!

 

Glitter Pumpkin

What you will need:

  • Pumpkin of any size
  • Tacky glue or Modge Podge Glue (both available at Co-op Art Store)
  • Paintbrush (available at Co-op Art Store)
  • Glitter color of your choice (available at Co-op Art Store)

Steps:

  1. Decide how much of your pumpkin you would like to cover with glitter
  2. Using your paintbrush, spread the glue around to cover the portion of the pumpkin you would like covered in glitter
  3. Sprinkle glitter on pumpkin, covering all the glue
  4. Let sit to dry
  5. Decorate your home with your cute, glittery pumpkin!

 

Happy Halloween Candy Corn Door Sign

What you will need:

  • A plain door sign
  • White acrylic paint (available at Co-op Art Store)
  • Orange acrylic paint (available at Co-op Art Store)
  • Yellow acrylic paint (available at Co-op Art Store)
  • Black acrylic paint (available at Co-op Art Store)
  • Ribbon color of your choice (available at Co-op Art Store)
  • Thick paintbrush (available at Co-op Art Store)
  • Thin paintbrush (available at Co-op Art Store)
  • Spray paint glitter (available at Co-op Art Store)

Steps:

  1. Draw the shape of a candy corn, filling up most of the door sign
  2. Outline candy corn in black paint
  3. Split the candy corn into 3 sections using black paint
  4. Using the thick paintbrush:
    1. Paint in the top section of the candy corn with white acrylic paint
    2. Paint in the middle section of the candy corn with orange acrylic paint
    3. Paint in the bottom section of the candy corn with yellow acrylic paint
  5. Using the thin paintbrush:
    1. Write “Happy Halloween” in the center of the candy corn when the paint has dried
  6. Paint in the extra spaces around the candy corn with black acrylic paint
  7. Use glitter spray paint and spray over door sign to add glitter
  8. Tie your ribbon on one corner of the door sign (on the handle) and make a bow
  9. Hang your awesome Halloween sign on your front door and enjoy!

 

Pumpkin Mason Jar

What you will need:

  • Mason Jar (available at Co-op Art Store)
  • Orange acrylic paint (available at Co-op Art Store)
  • Black acrylic paint (available at Co-op Art Store)
  • Ribbon of your choice (available at Co-op Art Store)
  • Thick paintbrush (available at Co-op Art Store)
  • Thin paintbrush (available at Co-op Art Store)

Steps:

  1. Using the thick paintbrush, paint your mason jar with orange acrylic paint
  2. Wait for the orange paint to dry
  3. Using the thin paintbrush:
    1. Paint two triangles for the eyes of a pumpkin with black acrylic paint
    2. Under the eyes, paint the pumpkin’s mouth with black acrylic paint
  4. Wait to dry
  5. Tie ribbon around the top of the mason jar
  6. Place your Halloween themed mason jar on a table and enjoy!

     

Halloween Cat

What you will need:

  • Small pumpkin
  • Small round Styrofoam ball (available at Co-op Art Store)
  • 3-4 black pipe cleaners (available at Co-op Art Store)
  • Thin orange ribbon (available at Co-op Art Store)
  • 1 piece of yellow felt (available at Co-op Art Store)
  • 1 piece of pink felt (available at Co-op Art Store)
  • 1 piece of black felt (available at Co-op Art Store)
  • Black acrylic paint (available at Co-op Art Store)
  • Hot glue gun (available at Co-op Art Store)
  • Thick paintbrush (available at Co-op Art Store)

Steps:

  1. Using the thick paintbrush:
    1. Paint the pumpkin black with acrylic paint
    2. Paint the Styrofoam ball black with acrylic paint
  2. Let sit to dry
  3. Using the hot glue gun, glue the pumpkin and the Styrofoam ball together, with the pumpkin being the cat’s body and the Styrofoam ball being the cat’s head
  4. Take 2 pieces of the black pipe cleaners and twist them together to make the cat’s tail
  5. Using the hot glue gun, glue the tail to the back of the pumpkin
  6. Cut a piece of orange ribbon and tie a bow around the cat’s neck (between the pumpkin and the head)
  7. Cut out a small triangle from the pink felt sheet for the cat’s nose
  8. Using the hot glue gun, glue the cat’s nose to the Styrofoam ball
  9. Cut out 2 large pieces of ovals in the shape of eyes from the yellow felt sheet
  10. Cut out 2 pieces of small circles from the black felt sheet
  11. Using the hot glue gun, glue the black circle eyes inside of the yellow oval eyes
  12. Glue the finished eyes on the Styrofoam ball
  13. Cut out 2 pieces of triangles from the black felt sheet for the cat’s ears
  14. Glue the ears on top of the Styrofoam ball
  15. Take 2 pieces of black pipe cleaners and cut them into 4 equal pieces to make cat’s whiskers
  16. Glue on the cat whiskers right next to the nose, 2 pieces on each side
  17. Decorate your home with this spooky, yet cute, Halloween cat!

 

Gumball Machine Costume

What you will need:

  • Large pack of colorful pom poms (available at Co-op Art Store)
  • Red skirt
  • Plain white t-shirt or tank top
  • Black headband
  • Small piece of cardstock or cardboard
  • Black marker (available at Co-op Art Store)
  • Hot glue gun (available at Co-op Art Store)

Steps:

  1. Using the hot glue gun, glue on pom poms all around the front of your shirt (your choice of size and colors!)
  2. Take a piece of cardstock and cut out a square piece
  3. At top of paper, draw a turn handle (like on a gumball machine) using the black marker
  4. Write “25¢” using the black marker below the handle
  5. Under this, draw a black square for the gumball dispenser
  6. Attach this paper to the skirt using hot glue
  7. Take the headband, and glue on pom poms around it
  8. All done! Go show off your awesome DIY Halloween costume!
