Austin American-Statesman Top Workplace for 2024
The University Co-op is Named an Austin American-Statesman Top Workplace for 2024
Austin, Texas – The University Co-op is a 2024 Austin American-Statesman Top Workplaces winner. The Austin America-Statesman Top Workplace Award generally recognizes between 100 and 130 organizations in the Austin area for this award based on talent feedback captured through the Energage Workplace Survey.
“Our people are the reason that the Co-op is a wonderful place to work,” said Cheryl Phifer, President and CEO of the University Co-operative Society. “Through their support, feedback, and commitment to our core values and mission, the Co-op continues to improve. We’re so grateful to our team and are committed to an environment where our team can thrive.”
The Co-op was established nearly 130 years ago with the goal of addressing the rising cost of course materials for students. Today, the Co-op is still focused on reducing the cost of course materials for students. As a not-for-profit, the Co-op gives all profits back to students through course material scholarships for Longhorns. Nearly 7,000 students received scholarships last academic year and support has expanded to give scholarships to the entire Longhorn band, all student athletes, and the pom and cheer squads.
In addition to the not-for-profit mission, the Co-op is committed to their core values of authentic, welcoming, supportive, achievers. These core values are shared, discussed, and celebrated weekly on a company-wide call, in department meetings and in shift chat ins, so all team members can highlight and recognize their peers for embodying these values.
“We are incredibly honored to be recognized as a winner for the 2024 Austin American-Statesman Top Workplaces for 2024. This achievement is a testament to the dedication and passion of our entire team, and mindfulness of our peoples’ experience. At the Co-op, we are committed to listening to our peoples’ experiences, and our leaders are committed to action planning,” said Angie Cartwright, VP People & Experience.
